Yesterday, the new owner of the local highway mart/gas station greeted me with a “namaste!” that’s pretty dang exotic for this neck of the woods. I was thrilled, I tell you!
I also saw a confusing pair of bumper stickers on one car. One sticker read, “Honk if you love Neptune” and the second said “Don’t blame me, I voted Republican.”
I fear I’m missing something. Tell me if you can figure it out.

In knitting news, I have needed to pick up the sweater I am knitting for afghans for afghans current campaign, in which they are collecting sweaters and vests for people 9-18 years old. They are hoping to get 900! and the deadline is Nov. 3, so what have I been waiting for?

seamless yoke sweater in progress

I am making the seamless yoked sweater as per Elizabeth Zimmermann’s instruction, in Lamb’s Pride bulky, color: Dark Earth. I cast on and knit a sleeve yesterday. I will hopefully get the second sleeve done today and be able to join sweater body and sleeves tonight. I probably won’t have enought of the brown, so I am going to do a green patterned yoke, with this yarn that I purchased not so long ago.

Who has the most refined style? Persephassa, of course! Click on the daily wears section of her photoalbum to see it. I will never be like that, and I don’t want to, but it sure is good to look at. She shops indie, too!

Opal has new dolly, Emily.
she is a topsy turvy doll, one side asleep:

Opal picked her out from this etsy shop and paid for it with her own money. (It was the shop’s first sale, too.)

mercury retrograde is upon us. It’s okay with me this time. I have been doing retrograde type things lately anyway. Clean up, clean up. That whole photo thing I have been into lately. Organizing all the pictures stored on my computer. That kind of thing.
I need to change the oil in my car. NOW.

We bought a new parakeet the other day, to keep Blueberry company. I hate to see a social animal alone, you know? The new one’s name is Popsicle. sigh. Blueberry and Popsicle are all bonded and preening each other.
Here’s the thing, I had to clip Popsicle’s wings so that I can open the cage. By the time they grow back, she will used to us and won’t freak out, flying all over the house. I hope.
clipped wings
my god is the God of Irony.

Oh my god, some go buy these for me now, please!

They are from cosy knit’s etsy shop. They are the best thing I have seen in awhile. For true.

I have been having great times putting together my etsy shop. Still. Ongoing. I made a very funky lightbox yesterday from some foamboard that was headed to the dumpster at work. I knew I would find a use for it! Dumpster diving pays off again…

so I can take better photos now. Yay!
Check out this item listing for an example.
I’m serious, (my loathing of) taking pictures has effectively put me off selling online for ages. If I can get over that, it will be a major step.

So, funny story. Opal (10 yrs) has been taking “beauty lessons” from one of the popular girls at school. Instigated by the other girl, I’m sure. first tips were “To be popular you have to wear white socks.” Huh? I guess that explains why I never made the cut. Oh, and, “have your hair cut by a professional.” Yeah, O cuts her own hair. Regularly.
so anyway, I thought that she had sort of stopped getting the lessons when the other girl wouldn’t walk with Opal cause “she isn’t popular enough.” I urged Opal to reconsider whether or not she wants to aspire to someone with those obvious prejudices. But apparently there has still been instruction happening because O came home yesterday and said, “I’m going to stop getting the beauty lessons from Sidney. She said black has to be my favorite color cause she says she’s a Goth.” ??? Then O says, “I asked her if she had heard of Gothic Lolita. She would look really good in that style.” !!!
Go Opal! You rock, kid!
and then she goes to school today wearing magenta, orange and yellow shorts, a multi-colored tee, with a red sweatshirt, purple floral tights and blue jelly shoes. Amazing!

Alice, on the other hand, came in yesterday from shepherding and happily sat down to darn a sock! have you ever met such a 13 year old?

Okay, this was just a brief interlude to show off Cosy’s mitts. Talk to you all soon.
